Gold foil wallpaper, a finish that changes with the light
Premium Gold Foil is a metallic gold-leaf effect: the surface catches light and shifts as you move past it, so the wall reads differently from the doorway than it does from the sofa. It is a statement finish rather than an everyday one, and it is at its best on a single wall the room is already looking at.
What it is
A metallic wallcovering printed to your wall's exact width and height. The gold is in the surface rather than in the ink, which is why it moves: a flat printed gold looks like mustard under a downlight and a foil does not. It is one of our three statement finishes, alongside silver foil and canvas, and the only one whose appearance depends on where you are standing.
Which walls it suits
A dining wall, a bar back, a stair landing, a hotel or restaurant reception, an alcove behind a bed. Lighting decides more here than the design does: a wall grazed by a downlight or a wall lamp will show the shift, and a flatly lit wall will show much less of it. It is not a finish for a whole room, and we would talk you out of using it in one. Existing wallpaper has to come off first, whatever finish you choose.
Living with it
Foils are the finish we ask you to be gentlest with. Dust with a soft dry cloth only — the metallic foils prefer a dry cloth to a damp wipe, and nothing abrasive, no scouring pads and no solvent cleaners should go near them. Because the effect depends so much on your own light, a free A4 printed sample is worth more here than on any other material we sell. Hold it against the wall at the time of day you will actually be looking at it.
Before you order
Measure the widest and tallest points of the wall in centimetres and enter those on the design page. We print to your figures and add a trim margin on every edge, included in what you are quoted. Foil is a paste-up material, so the wall needs to be clean, dry and clear of old wallpaper first. Tell us how the wall is lit when you order — with a foil, that is the single most useful thing you can tell us.
